Golan’s political career path was paved on three interconnected foundations: hatred for refugees, resentment toward leftists and hostility toward feminists. In a 2017 article on the Behadrei Haredim website, she asserted that “radical feminism is a hate movement” and presented a wacky conspiracy theory that feminists propagate “an atmosphere of war against the Jewish man” and aid refugees in order to promote the ultimate goal of the New Israel Fund – a state of all its citizens: “What happens to a country when this poison has spread inside it?... The local man is weakened, and now he can no longer stand up to the men who are invading his country.”

The decision to install Golan of all people in the new ministry at least underscores why the Netanyahu government opted to forgo the standard term nowadays of “gender equality” in favor of the archaic “advancement of the status of women.”
This ministerial appointment can be expected to cause great damage to gender equality, but it will surely advance the status of one woman: May Golan.
