Waiting for the call

By: Tarik Ajanovic, Sept. 4 2004

Following the recent FIFA national team rule, many players have been caught "between two fires".Vish vs. reality. We're bringing you the interwiew with Admir Haznadar-PSV Eindoven's young starlet.

Bosnia & Herzegovina has always been a country which produces good football players . Even during the Yugoslavian era , many Bosnian players were the vital part of the ex-Yugoslavian national team . Many of them are still a role model for young children and enthusiasic players .

Characters such as Vahid Halilhodzic , Safet Susic , Blaz Sliskovic , Ivica Osim , Mehmed Bazdarevic , Meho Kodro , Mirsad Hibic , Boro Primorac and others have always been the honorable ambassadors of their country . After Bosnia & Herzegovina got the indipendence , many players chose other national teams because they looked at footbal through the eyes of the politican .

Bosnian emmigrants were everywhere and their children are now beeing called up by foreign national teams . Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a Bosnian gem who's playing for Sweden , because Bosnian football federation didn't have the right people at the helm to spot this wonderkid .

Here's one example . Admir Haznadar is a talented 19-year-old player at PSV Eindhoven . This Bosnian is playing an important role in the lower ranks of the football giant and it's only the matter of weeks when is he going to put on the first team jersey .

Admir came to Holland as a refugee and in the meantime started playing football and got the Dutch citizenship . Now , Dutch football federation called him up for the forthcoming U20 World Cup Qualifications . What sholud he do - wait the Bosnian call-up or accept the Dutch one?

************

**Hello , Admir . First of all , have you cured that nasty injury that gave you a lot of troubles ?

Hello ! Well , I'm not injured anymore , so I can practice and play with my full power .

**What's your status in the team ? Can you compete for the first team , after Robben left the club ?

Well , now I'm playing with the reserves . That's the second team . After Robben left , the club brought one American player Beasly and they're currently satisfied with him . PSV Eindhoven's first team has 35 players and only 18 of them can be selected for the game . The rest of them are playing for the second team . For example Vonlanthen , who scored for Switzerland against France in the past EC , always plays for the second team . In that squad , I'm always in the first 11 .

**Did you have any contacts with Bosnian or Dutch footbal federation ?

After the game against Macedonia , I didn't have any contacts with the Bosnian federation . The manager from the Dutch team called me up for the game against Slovakia and I refused .

**Do you intend to accept the next call-up from Holland ?

Yes , if the Bosnian federation doesn't do anything .

**Explain me your situation if you chose Holland ...

I could play for them without any problems . I just turned 19 and I wouldn't lose the right to play for the Bosnian squad .

**Are you just beeing irritated or you want to "raise your price" a bit ?

I'm not angry or irritated , but that lack of attention really hurts . I said to Mr Zukanovic (Bosnian U21 manager) that I'm always ready to play for my country , Bosnia & Herzegovina . Playing on the U20 World Cup for Holland during the summer would naturally rise my rating and price . Also , my contract with PSV expires during the summer and maybe I really need something like this . The same thing would happen if I played for Bosnia & Herzegovina and that's my wish .

**Did anyone in your you club said something about this ?

Everybody are advising me to play for Holland because that would help my carrer . That's what they say .

**Can you tell me anything about Haris Medunjanin ? He plays for AZ and he also got the Dutch call-up ?

I know Haris since we were little kids but that contact is a bit weak right now because we live far from each other . Hare is an excellent player , plays the forward postion and he has fantastic technique skills . This season he's playing with the AZ reserves , but I expect him to compete for the first team really soon .

**What do you think about Mustafa Kucukovic ? He "humilliated" Bosnia with a couple of words and now he plays for Germany .

I heared that he's playing well and that he's near the first team . I believe that his games for Germany are stictly "business" and that he's going to play for Bosnia soon .

**Are you following the games of the Bosnian national team ? What do you think about the U-21 squad and the A team ?

I'm always following the results of our team . We played quite good recently and this draw with France confirms that . If we beat Spain on Wednesday , we'll be in Germany , that's for sure . I heared that a lot of players from abroad got the call-up for the U-21 team . Personally,I don't know anyone , so I can't judge the quality . I only know that Ibisevic iz perfectly using the time in Paris Saint-Germain which Hallilhodzic provides him . I hope we'll beat Spain .

**So , you're still behind your words that you never want to lose the chance to play for Bosnia ? Also , do you still think that it's the last moment for our federation to call you up ?

100% . As for the call up , it's up to Mr Zukanovic and my games in PSV .
