SLU's Ibisevic turns pro

All-America forward Vedad Ibisevic has turned pro with a European team, ending his soccer career at St. Louis University.

Ibisevic signed a three-year contract with the Paris St. Germain club of France.

"Vedad made a decision on his ability to help his family," SLU coach Dan Donigan said. "Part of our mission as a coaching staff is to provide an environment
that enables players to grow and reach the next level. We're proud that we were able to help further Vedad's career."

Ibisevic tied for fourth nationally in scoring last season with 40 points (18 goals, four assists) and received numerous postseason honors. He was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America first-team All-America and was the Soccer America and Soccer Times national Freshman of the Year.

The Billikens, who were 15-4-3 last season and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, begin preseason practice Aug. 13.

"We still have great expectations for our team this year, because we have a talented group of skilled, experienced players who are capable of filling the void left by Vedad," Donigan said.

Ibisevic nets PSG deal

Paris Saint-Germain FC have handed a three-year contract to Bosnian striker Vedad Ibisevic and at the same time announced that Portuguese midfielder Hugo Leal is leaving the club.

Impressive trial
The UEFA Champions League participants have struck a deal with Ibisevic after the 20-year-old impressed during a three-week trial, scoring several times in friendly games.

Spotted in the US
Ibisevic was spotted by compatriot Vahid Halilhodzic, the PSG coach, while playing college football in the United States. According to Halilhodzic, he "showed enough footballing ability and spirit to join the squad even if he will need a year or two to learn his trade."

High hopes
PSG have also loaned 18-year-old forward Franck Djadjedje to second-division Stade Brestois and parted company with Leal, the former SL Benfica player who arrived in the French capital in 2001 from Club Atlético de Madrid with high hopes.

Not regular
However, under first Luis Fernandez and then Halilhodzic, Leal failed to become a regular in the side. "Club and player have decided to split by mutual agreement," said a PSG statement.

Where are some of the PSG signings?
We had one or two players who must arrive. The transfer of Pancrate stays on, even if I haven't got all the cards in my hand. Its a player for the future, called Ibisevic.
