#1 Possible Withdrawal of Turkish Troops Disturbs Bosnians
Posted: 31/07/2004 11:45
by Istanbul
The International Stability Force's (SFOR) term of duty in Bosnia-Herzegovina expires at the end of this year, leaving many wondering if Turkey will continue its presence in the region.
During the June 28-29 North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Istanbul it was decided that a new force under the command of the European Union (EU) would be formed to replace SFOR. According to the decision, as they are not EU members, America and Turkey would withdraw their troops. However, the US declared that it would maintain its military existence in Bosnia, and no country objected to this. So, the only country that will leave Bosnia is Turkey, which has a contingent of 350 troops assigned to the city of Zenica.
The possibility that Turkish soldiers might leave the city disturbs the residents of Zenica. 70 percent of the city's 146,000 residents are Bosnian Muslims. The rest are Serbian and Croatian. The people have a great fondness for the Turkish troops since they have the same cultural and religious background. The Turkish troops also work on the type of projects that win people over, such as park and road construction.
Diplomatic sources indicate that SFOR will be handed over to a force to be constituted of EU's facilities. The sources point out that this force will not be exclusively an EU force; rather, it would be overseen by the EU.
Turkish troops will see out their term of duty, but no decision has been made about what will happen after 2004. Ankara continues to hold meetings concerning the issue, and it seems likely that the troops will stay in Zenica for the new term as well.
The number of soldiers in Bosnia's army is not enough to provide for the total security of the country. Due to financial reasons, 5,000 soldiers were dismissed, bringing the Bosnian army's total active personnel down to 8,000.

i would like to see greeks swim in agean but not as tourists, like they did in Izmir(smyrna)
then i would like to see nice highway which would connect turkish people with bosnians
ISTANBUL-SKOPLJE-SARAJEVO-BIHAC and forward
then my wish would be that Turkish people have a better understanding about orthodox turks you left in our country, they go by name of bosnian serbs excuse me Serbs
Turks should stay and be better friend to bosnians, we have same 500 year old history and lot of sultans and visiers had bosnian bl

Turkey should have our back if sick people across Drina try to invade our country
Bing Crosby wrote a good song once im dreming of white christmass

Zeljko's song was really good, but I know all the melody of that song before. It is an original melody of Azerbaicani Turk songs.
It is stolen from there, and they said it like their own
I heard about her speaches before the Eurovision, but later when she came here he made a speech than all that saying are lie ! she didnt say such a sentence.
Anyway, I dont like her. I can see how his brain think about Ottoman Empire.

Istanbul, quick question for you.
In your opinion, how come Turkey, especially Turkish government did so little for Bosnia during the war here? We appreciate all the humanitarian aid, moral support and even some insignificant weapon support, but where was the stronger political pressure? When Macedonia was about to break into the war Turkey sent the message to Serbia that they would go to war if they do anything in Macedonia. Message in the case of Bosnia was much softer.
What happened? I think that people of Bosnia including myself (I am not Muslim but I am Bosnian) were deeply disappointed and we expected much more. If you ever listened to Serb nationalist when they were killing civilians or shelling cities, they never said that they were killing Bosnians but Turks...
Please exaplain. Your opinion...

selam Dariosa...
first of all I am 25 years old, when the war in Bosnia started in 1992 i was 13 years old, and i wasnt interested in international events, and news that much.
the difference may be because of the government changes surely. Worst side of my country is 'we dont have a long term plan, we change our decides with our governments nearly in every field'. I think this is the answer for your question...
Sure we had to say the same 'if you do anything to Bosnia, we will go in to the war', but some people who doesnt care that much about Bosnia were in leader position. And also they wanted to prevent Serbs to do that, but their priority was different, first they were asking to USA what to do.
And about the second question; I know that they were making the war against the Turks in Bosnia. they call Bosniaks 'Yugoslavian Turks'. They dont want to see any Turkish, Ottoman trace in Europe. But you did it very well.
I wish no more war in Balkans.

The SFOR troops should all leave Bosnia, we don´t need them anymore. They haven´t done anything for us.
Especially the Turks should leave Bosnia, we don´t want te occupators back. I am not a nationalist nor a patriot, but Turkey has destroyed the medieval Bosnian state and it´s also Turkey´s fault that Bosnians of different religious confessions are divided into Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats. You´ve come to our country and built mosques and bridges, but no infrastructure. You´ve built mosques and bridges, just to let the world know, that you´ve been here...
For me, you´re the same old imperalists like the Austrians or the Hungarians...
The next struggle is, that there are no human rights in Turkey. There are many ethnic minorities, but none of them ever got the right to be what they are and want to be, so the Bosniaks too, who had to take turkish names, like all the others (Jews, Armenians, Greeks, Albanians, Kurds etc.)
You just give them some rights, just because you have to do it to enter the EU. I wonder what Turkey has to do with the EU. You´re even not in Europe. Bosporus is a small part of a great country like Turkey and it doesn´t make you a geographical part of Europe. But that´s not a problem, I am not against your candidature for to enter EU. We all know very good why the West doesn´t want you in the EU. Europe is not only Christian!! I am just talking about geography.
Kemal Mustafa Ataturk is your national hero... hm... history says that he has killed more than 2 million Armenians. Ain´t that war crime?
When will the ethnic minorities get their rights? Especially the Kurds? Stop the terror against the kurdish people. They´ve got their history and they have always been there where they´re now!
cheers

I know that Cyprus doesn´t belong to Europe. If it´s Europe, then Lebanon and Syria also belong to Europe
The Kurds have been there before the Turks conquered todays Turkey. They should get their state in 16th century but your expansion stopped it. The PKK is a leftist organization and I know that it´s a terror organization but they got no other option to defend themselves from the turkish fascists.
I´d rather vote PKK than some shitheads called MHP.

And it´s true that Turks brought us orthodox Wallachs, so we have a fascist blentitity called Republic of Srpska. It´s also Turkeys fault that we can´t find peace for centuries.
I jos nesto Violentjack.
Hizama.
