No, nažalost, i nas otuda ti vjetrovi zapuhuju.
P.S.WASHINGTON, Sept. 18—The United States is preparing to postpone $56‐million in Yugoslav debt payments over the next 10 years as part of an American assistance program totaling nearly $300‐million, ficials disclosed here today.
Furthermore, the United States is seeking ways to double purchases of Yugoslav meats and furniture for United States military forces and de pendents in West Germany to $40‐million a year.
Officials also said that the Export‐Import Bank—a Govvernment agency—had indicated its willingness to loan Yugo slavia up to $200‐million for various commercial projects. Recently, the officials noted, the bank lent Yugoslavia $36million to help develop her petrochemical industry.
Loan Requests Denied
At the same time, it was learned that a Yugoslav request for $100‐million in new United States loans had been ::.turned down. Officials said that ;because of Congressional’ restrictions on lending to Comniunist‐governed countries, the “Administration had decided to reschedule the $56‐million in debts, increase purchases for United States forces in West Germany and provide funds from the Export‐Import Bank.
These steps were described here as part of an international effort — involving West Germany, Italy, Britain, and France — to help stabilize Yugoslavia's Wobbly economy and shore up her reserves.
The Yugoslav Government is reported to be anxious not to Curtail four current programs—defense spending, personal congumption, investment and building up of the nation's underdeveloped regions...President Tito is insistent on strict financial in the defense program and Yugoslav officials have emphasized that Yugoslavia is not seeking defense aid from the United States.
Recent Army Visit
A recent visit to the United ;States Defense Department and to United States installations by a five man Yugoslav Army rnission headed by Maj. Gen. Velkjo Kadijevic was described as being solely a “friendly contact.”
The Yugoslav Government has also been conducting discussions for similar economic ‘and financial assistance with West Germany and Italy—her two principal trading partners —and with Britain and France. The international assistance now envisioned is said to total approximately $600‐million.
The Yugoslav Government has, however, rejected anything with the appearance of an in ternational “package,” sources here say, for fear of seeming to be closing ranks with the nonCommunist world and thus offending the Soviet Union.
Both United States and Yugoslay sources here emphasized that the negotiations on debt rescheduling are not connected with the visit here of President Tito next month
