The Mystery of Childhood
Modesty was found at the age of six, wandering around in Greece, having lost her memory. So the story of our heroine begins without a home, a family or any shelter. Her parents might have been killed before her very eyes, and her amnesia could have been a reaction of this; she could have made herself forget. The truth we will never know.
Stealing and Goat Herding
The lonely child had but one way of staying alive - survival. Modesty stole food for herself
and fled faster than anyone. The child quickly learnt the tricks of the trade, and not only that - she taught herself to mastering them.
Modesty spent a year as a shepherd in Greece. When she was 12, a wandering outcast beggar enslaved her like a donkey,
and dragged her around villages and marketplaces.
On the sixth night Modesty escaped. next
The Mafia Leader
During the infamous gangster war in Tanger, fate dealt Modesty
Blaise her cards. She took control of the Looshi organisation,
because she knew all of tough men and how to rule them.
Modesty was no ordinary criminal, while she had morals and
always acted with style.
The Rising of the Network
Modesty's criminal organisation, later known as the Network,
specialised in thefts. Everything was worth stealing; art,
precious jewellery, industrial intelligence - everything went.
The Network also protected it's own. Modesty couldn't stand
having weak and helpless around herself.
Modesty Meets Willie Garwin
During her time in the Network, Modesty met a hard and bitter
man, Willie Garwin. She bailed him out of prison and took him under her wings. She saw more in him than anyone else, and he
wasn't a fool either but saw that his chance had come in
the shape of this young brunette
Agent of the British Intelligence Service
Both Modesty and Willie were preoccupied by unsettling
and doubtful thoughts after Modesty had shut down the
criminal organisation, the Network. Had they done the
right thing by withdrawing from the Network? The answer came to them in the form of Sir Gerald Tarrant.
Sir Tarrant Makes Contact
The Chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service
appreciated Modesty Blaise's and Willie Garwin's talents
and vast contacts in the underworld. When he then
once found himself facing a small problem he officially
couldn't handle himself, he turned to them for help,
and so began Modesty's career as an agent.
Agent Modesty Blaise
Sometimes Law and Justice don't follow the same path,
but "jump the fences". And those, who walk outside the
stretch of the 'long arm of the law', fear nothing but
Modesty Blaise and Willie Garwin.
