evo sa euroleague sajta najava...
Euroleague giants Panathinaikos Athens and Real Madrid will clash for the third time this season on Friday at OAKA in the Greek capital. The previously split two entertaining regular season games, with each team winning at home. While Los Blancos feature essentially the same roster as in their past clashes, the Greens unveil a new look since they last faced Madrid through the additions of James Gist, Marcus Banks and Jason Kapono, while further complicating matters is star point guard Dimitris Dimantidis's availability after suffering an ankle injury.
These two teams feature serious firepower and there are several important matchups that will greatly impact the outcome. Panathinaikos will lean heavily on its frontcourt led by Sofoklis Schortsanitis, who dominated in Madrid, and Stephane Lasme, who put up big numbers in their second meeting. Madrid has no shortage of big men to counter them, starting with Mirza Begic and Rafael Hettsheimeir at center. The athletic Marcus Slaughter could be an ideal matchup for Lasme, while Felipe Reyes has the power to create trouble for Big Sofo. The visitors could look to create mismatches of their own through Rising Star Nikola Mirotic. Madrid’s firepower is in the backcourt, where guards Sergio Llull and Sergio Rodriguez run the show and Rudy Fernandez and Jaycee Carroll are elite scorers. Diamantidis, if fit, will lead the Greens' defensive effort alongside Roko Ukic at point guard and Banks, Kopono, Mike Bramos and Jonas Maciulis on the wings. In a fast-paced game, Kapono, Bramos and Maciulis all have the ability to tear down a defense in a hurry with their three-point shooting, which also opens up space for Schortsanitis. The trick for Coach Argiris Pedoulakis is to limit the intense bombing to those guys. Similarly, Panathinaikos will need Bramos, Banks et al to cause problems for Fernandez and Carroll.
One thing that is certain is that when these teams meet, offensive power will be on display. Madrid as the momentum this time with a five-game winning streak and a 3-0 road record in the Top 16. Panathinaikos isn’t far behind at 3-1 in Group E. The ability of Diamantidis to make an impact will also play a major role for Panathinaikos. Regardless it should be a highly competitive and entertaining contest.
