The lap times are then compared and evaluated. Ricciardo told F1 Insider about the test: “It’s a lot at stake for me, but I’m in good spirits.”

That means: If he clearly beats Lawson, he could be in pole position to replace Perez at Red Bull for 2025. Lawson has to counter this: Firstly, to recommend himself as a possible successor to Perez. Secondly, to secure a cockpit for 2025.

Because, as this website learned, Red Bull has guaranteed him a regular place in the premier class for next year according to his contract. If this doesn't work with the four Red Bull cars, Lawson can be hired by someone else. What speaks for him is that Lawson celebrated his debut race a year ago in Zandvoort when he had to replace Ricciardo at short notice with the Red Bull junior team, who broke his hand in an accident during training and was sidelined for three races.

Lawson made a good impression as a substitute, but had to hand over his cockpit to the recovered Ricciardo. Since then he has been patiently waiting for a new opportunity.
