Loris Karius' move from Liverpool to Besiktas has been held up by national public holidays in Turkey.

The clubs thrashed out a £9.5m deal with the German keeper withdrawn from the Reds' squad for the clash at Crystal Palace.

Three days on Karius has yet to put pen to paper but the 25-year-old shot-stopper is expected to head for Istanbul to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours, says @JamesPearceEcho

Average goals scored and conceded over the past 5 Premier League seasons (since 2013-14):

Title winners: 87 scored, 33 conceded

Liverpool: 76 scored, 46 conceded

No team has won the league conceding more than 40 goals in that time.

Last season was the first season since Benitez left (2009-10) where Liverpool have conceded less than 40 goals.

Since the start of 2018, Liverpool have conceded 14 goals in 18 league games, which extrapolates to ~30 goals conceded over a 38 game season.

With the additions of Alisson & Van Dijk from the start of the season, we can reasonably expect Liverpool to concede fewer than 35 league goals in 2018-19. The aim should really be to concede fewer than 30. That, ultimately, will be key to sustaining a genuine title challenge.

Liverpool’s last title challenge (13-14) was built on quicksand- a defence which conceded 50 goals.

Klopp has now constructed a side with arguably the best front line in Europe- a much improved midfield- along with Liverpool’s strongest defensive unit since 08-09.

Concede 30, score 90+. That's the rough benchmark. If Liverpool can manage those numbers, I think they'll be there or thereabouts come May.
