Ovih dana reklama nas bombarduje tvrdnjom "Rokenrol uzvraća udarac". Đavola. Sve me podseća na vreme grafita "Punk ‘s not Dead", napisanih u doba kada više ni najljući pankeri niti su slušali, niti pak svirali pank.

CARPE DIEM - Rockabilly summer night
Mjuza koju morate čuti i osjetiti.

Ja imam negdje oko 400 cd's rockabilly/psychobilly muzike i oko dvadesetak DVD-a ...

The Stray Cats are a rockabilly band formed in 1979 by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer (Bloodless Pharaohs/Brian Setzer Orchestra) with school friends Lee Rocker (born Leon Drucker) and Slim Jim Phantom (born James McDonnell) in the Long Island town of Massapequa, New York.
Formation and rapid UK success
The group, whose style was based upon the sounds of Sun Records artists from the 1950s and heavily influenced by Bill Haley & His Comets, had little initial success in the New York music scene, and had to move to England before they saw any success at all within the nascent rockabilly revival there. The group had several hit singles in the UK and the U.S. during the early 1980s. After a gig in London, Stray Cats met producer Dave Edmunds, well known as a roots rock enthusiast for his work with Rockpile and as a solo artist. Edmunds offered to work with the group, and they entered the studio to record their self-titled debut album, Stray Cats, released in England in 1981 on Arista Records. They were popular immediately, scoring three straight hits that year with "Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," and "Stray Cat Strut."
Return to the U.S.
The follow-up to Stray Cats, Gonna Ball, was not as well-received, and was stung by the negative reviews. Stray Cats returned to the United States, signed with EMI America, and in 1982 released Built for Speed, a combination of their earlier LPs. "Rock This Town" and "Stray Cat Strut" hit the top of the American charts thanks to MTV airplay. The follow-up, Rant N' Rave With The Stray Cats, was almost as successful. Helped by extensive airplay on the newly-launched MTV, "Rock This Town" and "Stray Cat Strut" both hit the American Top Ten, over a year after their British chart peaks. As a result, Built for Speed was a left-field smash, and Stray Cats was seen as an avatar of retro style. Their second American album, Rant N' Rave With The Stray Cats, appeared in 1983 and produced another Top Ten hit in "(She's) Sexy + 17," as well as a minor Top 40 entry in the doo wop-styled ballad "I Won't Stand in Your Way."
Break-up and subsequent reunions
Personality conflicts began to emerge in the ways that the individual members handled their new-found success; Phantom married actress Britt Ekland, while Setzer made guest appearances with stars like Bob Dylan and Stevie Nicks and became the concert guitarist for Robert Plant's Honeydrippers side project. In late 1984, Setzer broke up the band amid much bad blood. Rocker and Phantom formed a trio called Phantom Rocker & Slick (the "Slick" being former David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick), while Setzer went on to a solo career, exchanging his rockabilly focus for a more wide-ranging roots rock/Americana sound on albums such as 1986's The Knife Feels Like Justice.
In 1986, Stray Cats got back together in Los Angeles, and recorded the covers-heavy Rock Therapy, which sold poorly. In 1989, they reunited once again for the album Blast Off, which was accompanied by a tour with Stevie Ray Vaughan. No longer with EMI America, they entered the studio with Nile Rodgers for the lackluster Let's Go Faster, issued by Liberation in 1990. 1992's Dave Edmunds-produced Choo Choo Hot Fish also attracted little attention, and after another covers album, Original Cool, the group called it quits again.
However, after a dozen years apart, Stray Cats reunited for a month-long tour of Europe in 2004. A live album culled from those concerts, Rumble In Brixton, included one new studio track, "Mystery Train Kept A Rollin'."
As of August 2007, they are currently touring the USA with ZZ Top and The Pretenders.[1]
Band members' follow-on careers
Stray Cats have reunited periodically for live performances. Setzer is still part of his 1990s swing-revival band The Brian Setzer Orchestra. Rocker and Phantom went on to form Swing Cats as well as releasing some solo material. Slim Jim Phantom also plays the drums in another rockabilly band 13 Cats, as well as the Rock and Roll band The Head Cat with Lemmy (Motörhead) and Danny B. Harvey (13 Cats). Brian Setzer has played a number of Gretsch guitars in various stages of modification and customization throughout his career including a signature model produced by Gretsch in the 1990s.He has Seven Grammy nominations.
They were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame[1]on October 15, 2006.

Posebno ostaje njihova izvedba klasika "Mystery Train". Koju godinu iza Brian je ponovo okupio Stray Cats i izdali su odlicni DVD "Rumble In Brixton" (preporucujem svima da ovo nabave).

Takodjer prije neki dan sam nabavio DVD grupe "The Head Cat" u kojoj sviraju i pjevaju Lemmy (Motorhead), Dexy Gordon (13 Cats, Polecats) i Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats).

http://www.rockabilly.com/

Kratka prica o rockabilly-ju:

Don't know what rockabilly sounds like? Listen to above samples!

Rockabilly is a lead guitar, a rhythm guitar and a upright bass.
Real true rockabilly... well you get too carried away till a drummer can't keep up with it! --- Charlie Feathers, 1979 ---

The rockabilly style evolved out of post-war country-boogie, hillbilly, and rhythm & blues. Between 1945 and 1954 these disparate musical styles crossed paths and developed the hybrid known as rockabilly. The Delmore Brothers were early exponents of the country-boogie style, which had grown out of jazz boogie-woogie rhythms. They recorded several influential discs on the King label in the mid-forties, including "Hillbilly Boogie" and "Pan American Boogie" in 1945. These set the course for other country artists who assimilated the Delmores' rhythms into their own work. Hank Thompson, Webb Pierce, Red Foley and Moon Mullican among others built careers around the boogie beat. Equally important in the evolution of rockabilly was the hillbilly style of Hank Williams. His honky-tonk hillbilly sound, utilizing steel guitar, acoustic bass and profound influence on Bill Haley and Carl Perkins.

As early as 1952, Haley and his group the Saddlemen employed the slapped bass sound, which was to become the hallmark of the rockabilly style. Perkins, a country boy like Williams, sang in a pure hillbilly manner. In fact, his very first release, "Turn Around" (1955), on the Flip label, was classic hillbilly, owing much to his affinity for the Hank Williams style. From the very same session came "Gone Gone Gone" (1955), which combined Perkins' hillbilly style with a primitive rockabilly rhythm.

The final ingredient in the rockabilly mix, rhythm & blues, owes much to Sam Phillips. Forming the Memphis Recording Service in 1950, Phillips initially recorded what was to become a virtual 'who's who of bluesmen,' namely: Junior Parker, Bobby Bland, Little Milton, Howlin' Wolf, Walter Horton, James Cotton and many more. Phillips' use of flutter echo and over-amplification created a stark, primitive sound that he later adapted to his efforts with country artists.

Interestingly, it was a guitar riff from Junior Parker a "Love My Baby" (1953) in Elvis Presley's 1955 version of "Mystery Train" (also a Parker original) that positively forms a link between the country and rhythm & blues styles. Indeed, it was Presley's historic Sun recordings that crystallized the emerging rockabilly style and laid the groundwork for Phillips pioneering efforts at his klix studio in Memphis. Over the next four years Phillips recorded countless rockailly artists, but none had greater importance than Carl Perkins.

While Elvis undisputably stands as the progenitor of the new idiom, it was, in fact, Carl Perkins' original self-penned recording of "Blue Suede Shoes" (1956) which resulted in international recognition for rockabilly. Perkins' Sun recordings were quintessential rockabilly, combining all the elements of the style. Further, he opened the floodgates for the exploitation of rockabilly by other labels. At first issued only on small independent Memphis and Texas labels (Shimmy, Fernwood, Erwin, Lin, Jan), rockabilly quickly found its way to the majors. Columbia, Capitol, Decca/Coral and Mercury recorded rockabilly artists feverishly during 1956-57.

Their recordings constitute one of the most fruitful and exciting periods in the history of rock 'n roll. And the key to their continuing popularity is their basic honesty. Rockabilly musicians recorded in the most uninhibited fashion with the sparest instrumentation, often on primitive equipment. Most of today's music, cold and calculated, pales in comparison with the simplicity and beauty of these early pioneering efforts.

Tom Henneberry, 1978

Elvis Presley!?

http://www.elvis.com.au/presley/elvis_p ... ings.shtml

Stranica jeste iz Australije, ali je odlična...

Evo jedne male istorije jedne od najcudnijih, mozda i najboljih, psychobilly grupa, "Demented Are Go", koji su izdali odlican DVD "Holy Hack Jack". Vise informaciju oko grupe na

http://www.dementedarego.net/

Trying to determine just when and how Demented Are Go started is not an exact science as the band members themselves admit that their memories are not all that good, but we do know that by 1982 the band were up and running. Guitarist Dick Thomas (no relation to Ant) helped pull the whole thing together, having been in a lot of bands before Demented he knew how to get things moving. Demented Are Go had their first release on the 1984 Nervous records compilation Lp 'Hells Bent On Rockin' but it was not until about 18 months later that their album 'In Sickness And In Health' was released on ID Records. A few years on the band members could be found all living in the same squat in London with no electricity - this would have been around '87-88-ish. They started writing songs acousticly, by candle light. These songs surfaced - again on ID - as the album 'Kicked Out Of Hell'. Tours of Germany and mainland Europe followed and Demented found themselves playing at punk gigs as well psycho events. Spark started living at various big organised squats and existing on diet of drugs and alcohol.

Ant recalls: "Spark was going more and more off his head. Graeme and Lex both left the band at the same time and nothing really happened for a few months. Then out of blue Spark appeared on my doorstep with the bass player called Billy and a guitarist called Mike saying that we were booked for a studio that same day! We had no songs but we went and wrote them in the studio. The whole thing took 3 days from start to finish. This ended up on Link Records as a mini album 'The Days The Earth Spat Blood'. It's a good album, but not classic Demented - it got a mixed reception. Not long after we sacked Mike and got Lex back again."Demented hit the road again in 1991, travelling all over Europe. They also wrote and recorded 'Orgasmic Nightmare' which was released on Fury Records. The album was well received and the band got a lot of work as a result. Over the next two years the band toured constantly, during which time Billy eventually moved to America and Graeme returned on bass.

A second album for Fury was recorded in 1993 titled 'Tangenital Madness'. Again the album was well received and the growing army of Demented Are Go fans lapped it up. 1993 saw the band travel to Japan for the first time. The 3 weeks tour was a huge success, with Spark even appearing on stage naked at times! The following year Demented returned to Japan for another sell-out tour. Whilst touring Germany in the spring of 1995 Demented split for a while. We ask Ant to explain.. "Yeah Spark just went mental...!!" The split was thankfully short lived and in 1996 the band released a 10"EP called 'I Wanna See You Bleed' for Pin Up. 1997 saw the band tour the west coast of America and the departure of Lex - who was swiftly replaced by Stan The Man. All the stories of drugs, rubber fish(!), nudity and on-stage sex with vaccum cleaners, just seem to fan the flames of forest fire that has become Demented's fast spreading popularity.

Not long after the lineup changed yet again with the introduction of Choppy on bass who was later replaced by Eddie from the Klingonz. In 1999 the band brought out the lp "Hellucifernation" (temporarily halted when Ant broke his back!) and caused general mayhem touring around Europe. But, true to form Spark started losing his mind again. He became so psychotic that they had to cut short a European tour and return to the UK without him. After a few months the rest of the band decided they would give Spark one more chance when they were offered a headline gig in New Jersey (USA). All Spark had to do was keep his head together..... On arrival Spark caused loads of trouble both inside and outside the hotel and at the venue he managed to set fire to the surrounding woodland. After their soundcheck they went to a nearby shopping mall where Spark was arrested for pinching a klix ass. It turned out that she was only sixteen so he was charged with molesting a minor. High on drugs, wearing a silver dress, purple cowboy boots and a pink tiara they threw him in jail. Unable to pay the $60,000 bail the rest of the band were forced to leave him behind and return home.

After a month in jail and a $100 fine Spark was out and on the loose again. He managed to reform DAG with old guitarist Lex Luther, psychotic drug fiend Choppy and best friend Criss Damage. Choppy didn't last long and was replaced by the brilliant old shool bassist that is Kelvin Klump. With this lineup they have gone from strength to strength proving that Demented Are Go are still the deadliest rockin' band on the circuit.

Kelvin and Lex left the band in the summer of 2003 after a period of near-stability for DAG! They played over 50 shows in a year including 2 US tours during which the album '...live at the Galaxy' {on Crazy Love Records} was recorded. After managing to overcome various disasters and incidents on the road {Sparky was arrested a couple of times!!} DAG found themselves with a line-up crisis once more. With a new record deal with 'People Like You Records' (germany) and a month long european tour booked, DAG turned to 2 old stalwarts of the scene: Doyle & Strangy of Klingonz/Celtic Bones fame, had both at various times filled in for the odd gig in the past and now with them on board DAG prepare to face the unknown once again...

Mnogi me pitaju kako izgleda kolekcija "Bad Boys For Life" (do sada su objavljena 3 dupla DVD izdanja). Od same svirke grupa, do tehinke, nacina snimanja, pakovanja DVD-a i svega ostalog, sve ide bolje i bolje. Turneja za ovu godinu je otkazana, jer Kings Of Nuthin' nisu mogli da nastupe, pa ekipa iz "People Like You Records" (inace punog naziva "I Used To Fuck People Like You In Prison - Records :-D ) je odustala od dogovorene turneje. Na Drugom DVD-u, u dodacima, ima odlican prikaz dijela nastupa, najboljeg japanskog psychobilly banda, The Battle Of Ninjamanz. Ukoliko Vas interesuje vise detalja oko ovih DVD-a, evo linka sajta, pa se djelomicno sami uvjerite da se radi o odlicnim DVD izdanjima:

Kako je kod nas veoma tesko nabaviti bilo sta, tako sam se ja orijentisao na online shopping i to mi uspjesno ide vec neke 4 godine. Pored muzike i DVD-a od prije godinu dana nabavljam sebi i rockabily/psychobilly majice, working shirts, itd ... evo dva linka s kojih kupujem najvise:

Sada trazim King Kerozin majice, ali veoma tesko doci do istih. Imaju shop u Minhenu (nama najblizi) i veoma dobre majice na ponudi..
