Russian-American historian- Yuri Felshtinsky:
Putin's decision to withdraw troops from Syria condemns Turkey for war with the Kurds
The next few days, perhaps even weeks, the world will discuss the Russian government's decision to withdraw troops from Syria. March 14, Putin told about this bad news on the phone to President Assad, and during a personal meeting - Foreign Minister Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The latter was ordered to begin withdrawing troops immediately, on the next day.
In absolute confusion reside not only foreign observers, commentators and analysts, but also the Russian press. Russia's English-language channel of the RT, must be justified on the status of any decisions and actions of the Kremlin, it looks at the watch lost and pale, because it can only be repeated Putin's statement that Russia's army in Syria has fulfilled its task. Meanwhile, it is obvious that it is not. The Assad regime is not stable. The Islamic state is not weakened. Opposition to Assad are not destroyed.
Putin performed only one task: to further inflame a civil war in Syria.
In the incident we probably should not surprise Putin's intention to withdraw its troops from Syria (which, judging by the statements of the former Kremlin official, there had never been), but the fact that it is publicly announced and unexpected.
Agree troops who quietly administered to Syria, starting from September 30, 2015, could be just as quietly withdraw from there. Why should it declare, at the same time stressing that the air force base at Latakia and a naval base in Tartus Russia reserves and will defend?
Create Kurdistan can only be contrary to the will of Assad, not with his consent, since the creation of Kurdistan means the final and formal disintegration of Syria.
Putin announced not on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria. Putin announced that Moscow decided to "pass" Assad leave him to fend for themselves and to give freedom to the hands of the opposition in the destruction of President Assad. It remains to understand what caused the change in the Russian position, if the incident is really "change" rather than initially planned action.
The answer to this question is. Five and a half months of the military campaign in Syria have shown (in the Kremlin knew that the day №1), that keep Assad in power is impossible. At the same time it was confirmed that in Syria, Russia is preferable to maintain a different force: the Kurds who are fighting for the establishment of their own independent state.
But to create a Kurdistan can only be against the will of Assad, not with his consent, since the creation of Kurdistan means the final and formal disintegration of Syria. Accordingly, the establishment of Kurdistan requires the removal of Assad and split Syria, as the United States March 14, Putin has told President Barack Obama (on the phone).
One would be glad for the Kurds get the chance to create their own state, and upset for Turkey, doomed to war with the Kurds. But the Turkish-Kurdish war would be long and bloody, and the Kurds will have to pay a high price for independence, and the humanitarian consequences of this war will be disastrous for the population.
>>>>>>At the same time, Turkey is a secular state, will cease to exist. It will roll down the rails of Muslim extremism, jeopardizing its membership in NATO and membership in the European Union candidate. Since Putin has to weaken NATO and the European Union, selected it means - to stop supporting Assad, leading to the formation of Kurdistan and the Kurdish-Turkish War - he certainly considers justified.<<<<<<
