Siluete (The Silhouettes) were formed in 1961 almost straight after they saw the film with Cliff Richard & The Shadows in local cinema. Under very strong influence of The Shadows sound, they also choose the similar name. Their first big gig was in the same year as support of one of the first rock'n'roll stars in ex Yugoslavia - Djordje Marjanovic. They played in front of many thousands of his fans. In 1963 they almost split up. Zoran Miscevic - legendary Yugoslavian 60s punker - vocal and bass guitar, reformed Siluete in 1964. One of the new members is Tomi Sovilj (see Tomi Sovilj i Njegove Siluete). During 1964 they had few great gigs but in the same year they split in two different bands - Siluete and Tomi Sovilj i Njegove Siluete (Tomi Sovilj and His Silhouettes). In 1965 they shocked all Yugoslavia with (very) long hairs. Next year they made few clips for national tv. Zoran's long, blonde died, hair is big scandal in whole land. Siluete are part of art happenings and performances of young painter Olja Ivanjicki in Zagreb and Belgrade.

Sanjalice (Dreamers) were one of, probably not many, girl bands in yugoslavia. Actually I've heard about only 2 more: Lutke and Sigele. And Sanjalice are probably the only girl band that released a record in yugoslavia at that time. Unfortunately I don't know much about them. I know that Slobodanka Miscevic (guitar) was the best student in her class and Ljiljana Jeftic (bass) was only 15 years old. Ok their records are not that wild, but "Bez Reci" is one the best girl 60s punk songs I heard. I also love their version of "Happy Together". I heard they were really great band to see live and probably they were wilder than on their-

Roboti (The Robots) started in 1963. Till 1965 they are more famous in Austria than in Yugoslavia. They play very often in Vienna in clubs and on Beat Festivals (there they were only foreign band among 150 Austrian bands). In 1966 they play on famous Beat Festival in Zagreb. They also play on First Beat Meeting Italy-Yugoslavia.-

Indeksi or Indexi started in 1962. They were all students at that time so that's why they called them selves Indexi (index - book with all your study results). In the beginning they were instrumental band. 1964 they win 2nd price of Gitarijada festival (first price went to Elipse) after what they got the chance to record their first 7". In the mean time Davorin Popovic (singer - also great basketball player, ex Puci (Spiders)) joins the band. In december 1967 they tour USSR. In the same time they start to experiment with their music (in song "Boj na Misaru" they use some eastern folk instruments). Their works from 1967 are strongly influenced by psychedelic and acid sounds. "Negdje na kraju u zatisju" is the first trip song that any of ex Yugoslav bands made. The song is longer than 10 minutes and full of beautiful and strange parts. It's real psych master piece. After playing on many festivals they finally get the price for best rock band on Zagreb festival 1971. Later they become one of the biggest bands in ex Yugoslavia. They also toured some other East Europe countries. In 1972 they release 7" with song "Plima" which was recorded but not released in 1968 because the publisher thought it wasn't commercial enough. Davorin Popovic also recorded some solo albums.-

The band Grupa 220 (Group 220) was formed in 1966 with members of bands Ehosi and Jutarnje Zvijezde (Morning Stars). They had their first gig in october the same year. In december they record their first song "Osmijeh" which becomes a big hit right away. Very soon they become one of the most popular bands in former Yugoslavia. Long hairs and "flower power" clothes attracted lot of young people. Flowers were the tickets for their concerts. In 1967 and 1968 Drago Mlinarec (vocal and guitar) composed music for two films "Protest" and "Tri sata ljubavi" - both films were directed by Fadil Hadzic. Grupa 220 also appears in the film "Tri sata ljubavi". They take part in Zagreb 68 and Split 68 festivals, and also first pop festival in Zagreb. Grupa 220 released the first rock long play record in ex Yugoslavia - "Nasi dani" LP. They played as support band on the concerts of Marmelade, Status Quo and Mango Jerry when they were touring ex Yugoslavia 1968. 1971 Mlinarec leaves the band and goes solo. Grupa 220 continues to exist and record without him till 1975 when they split up.
