Za rasnog Harley-a mora se biti pooooooooodobro situiran, dok su istinski bajkeri okrenuti motorima, a ne dovijanju oko love, odatle vjecna dilema - Harley Badasses vs Harley Posers, nazalost.

Moja je logika, ako voliš motore, ako si bajker, pravi bajker, nećeš žaliti pare na Harleya - ako ga stvarno želiš bez obzira kako si situiran.

Ima i ona američka da je Honda dosadan motor, jer se na njoj nema šta raditi.

Recimo u Americi, zadnjih deceniju-dvije Harley se najbolje prodaje visoko obrazovanim i situiranim, onima koji su potrosili decenije na obrazovanje, strucno usavrsavanje, posao, zaradu i sve sto uz to ide, a nema veze sa motorima... E sad, takvima motori mogu biti vazni u zivotu, ali nikako onoliko koliko i onima koji su zrtvovali gore pobrojano da bi cijelo vrijeme bili uz motore, pa makar to nebio bas onaj neki naj-naj...

Vi ste malo prolupali: po vama biker koji ima love je supak, a biker kokuz je pravi - biker.

Nidje veze: biker se prepoznaje po KILOMETRAZI, bez obzira da li je kokuz ili ima love, i momci koje ja znam po Sarajevu a imaju Harleye prelaze godisnje po 15.000 km. Imate u Sarajevu par Harleya koji izgledaju kao da su tek iz prodavnice izasli, a imaju po cca 65.000 km na kilometar-satu!

Kilometri su bitni, a ne izgled motora. I nije svako supak ko vozi Harleya, Porschea, Touarega, Ferraria, ima ljudi koji to vole.

“Yuppy bikers”: Owns an expensive motorcycle which is almost always parked. Is not a biker. Is a motorcyclist, but only when riding. Is most definitely an enthusiast, and has spent big money to prove it. When you ride, you are a motorcyclist, but $30,000 does not make you a biker. Chrome won’t get you home. Take it outa the garage and let it get wet, then we’ll talk.

Weekend Bikers: Some of us have busier schedules than others. Others have jobs that require dress codes. There is nothing wrong with being a weekend biker, if that’s the best you can do. Just don’t try and come across as the baddest ass biker around. Get your head outa your butt.

American Biker: Rides an American made motorcycle only. Adheres to the strictest contextual and traditional definition of biker.

There are numerous dissertations on the subject of brand loyalty. All brands of motorcycles have their good points and bad points. Most Harley Bikers are glad you get in the wind no matter what you ride, and know it is not the motorcycle that matters. Some will say it is attitude that matters, while others will say it is lifestyle. It usually just boils down to how often you ride.

Bottom Line: If you consider yourself a biker, frequently get in the wind, and you’ve ever relied on any brand of motorcycle as your primary or only transportation for an extended period of time, nobody should have a problem with it if you call yourself a biker. You might have many more miles in the wind on your BMW (or whatever brand) cruiser or your Italian sportsbike, so you really have much more right to consider yourself a biker than a yuppy biker who spends $25000 on a chromed out chopper and keeps it parked. I rode all kinds of motorcycles in the last 35 years. Once you get in the wind, that’s all that matters. BIKERS USA welcomes all Bikers who share the road and the wind.

The machine’s story actually started in 1938, when War Department officials asked American motorcycle manufacturers to design a 500cc motorcycle that could ford streams, not overheat at idle or during slow running, and sustain 65 mph. Times were tough, and both Harley-Davidson and Indian designed machines in hopes of securing the military contract. Indian followed the military specs perfectly, producing the 500cc Model 741 that was based on its civilian Junior Scout. William Harley at the Motor Company, however, balked at producing a 500cc machine, to the point of confrontation. He was adamant that the military needed a 750cc (45 cubic inch) motorcycle for war, and he based his design on the W-series side-valve motor. The WLA featured alloy cylinder heads for better cooling, more ground clearance, a cargo rack and saddlebags. Simplicity and reliability were key, so compression was lowered (hence the “L” in the name) and an oil-bath air filter was added. In the end, with war imminent, the Army approved purchase orders for both the Harley and the Indian. In practice, though, the Harley was the preferred machine, and more than 90,000 were produced before war’s end

Back in the early 1940s, the U.S. Army asked Harley-Davidson to design a next-generation military motorcycle. The company was already producing the WLA, based on its traditional 45-degree V-twin. But the army wanted a bike with one feature the WLA didn’t have: shaft drive.

For its target, Harley chose another well-developed military bike — BMW’s R75, then in use by the German army. Harley’s version, the XA, was a near duplicate, right down to the flat-twin engine.

The army ordered a test batch of 1,000 XAs. At the same time, the military also asked Indian to make a 750cc shaft-drive twin, and it came up with a 90-degree V-twin design much like recent Moto Guzzis.
