Will Chelsea Ever Be A Great Club?

As Chelsea start the new season with the now annual cut price exits of last years over priced “stars”, the question on every fans lips is “when will the revolving door into Stamford Bridge stop swinging?”
Mr. Mourinho declares that in 4 years time Chelsea “will not need to buy anyone”, but surely with the resources at his disposal, there will always be fresh arrivals at Chelski. The question that the players themselves appear to now be asking, and one that will have a large impact on Chelsea’s attempt to join Footballs pantheon is, “why go to Chelsea?”
Mourinho theoretically has the power to bring any player he wants to the blue part of London. However, as his failed attempts to lure Europe’s top strikers have shown, there is much more to football than money. Even with the success Chelsea had last year there is hardly a queue of players with resumes in hand outside Mourinho’s office. Samuel Eto’o, whose current side Barcelona was knocked out of the champions’ league by Chelsea publicly rejected their overtures, saying “there is more to life than money”. Adriano and Schevchenko are happy to remain in Milan, and Gilardino has spoken of his desire to stay in Italy. Michael Essien is probably the most crucial example. The talented midfield dynamo from Ghana has spoken openly about his desire to join Manchester United, a club who finished trophy-less last year, rather than the Premier League Champions. Why? Because Chelsea are not a “great” club.
Despite having a modern stadium, arguably the best manager in the world and boasting a squad with more depth than a diving pool, Chelsea are not viewed in the same way as the traditional football super powers. Milan, Internazionale, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United etc have certain characteristics and pulling power that Chelsea simply do not possess. Why don’t young men from across the globe dream of playing in the blue shirt of Chelsea? The great clubs all have rich histories, years of past success and champions and legends in every era. Chelsea’s previous title win was 50 years ago, and they have never lifted a Champions’ League trophy. Manchester United have the Munich air crash, Juventus and Liverpool have the Heisel disaster, tragedies that galvanise fans and give the players added responsibility, knowing there is someone to live up to, to represent when wearing the shirt. Knowing the club is bigger than any player is what makes these clubs so great. Yes, spending power and contracts are crucial when luring the best players, but unless there is some sense of history, some romance about a club, a player’s desire and effort may well be compromised. A player needs to be more than simply an employee, there needs to be a passion and loyalty for the shirt for a club to be truly great.
Not only does Chelsea lack the history of a Juventus, but they seem to have become a halfway house for emerging stars of the game, and a retirement fund for the established stars. Mateja Kezman, whose record in Holland has no equal, was happily shipped off by a club in need of strikers after one unhappy year lacking goals and games. Scott Parker, at the time of his transfer one of the most exciting talents in England, has essentially treaded water during his 18 month Chelsea career. Hernan Crespo and Seba Veron, two of the most accomplished players in their respective positions floundered at Stamford Bridge but have flourished in Milan, Veron being one of the stars of Inter’s Serie A campaign, while crespo scored the crucial goals to knock Man Utd out of the Champions’ League before grabbing a brace in the final. The two Argentinian stars have nothing to bring to Italy from there time in London except a horror story. While it can be argued that players careers have stalled at all big clubs, it is the lack of patience shown to new recruits (Mutu being a prime example) and the huge turn-over of players that seems to be worrying Chelsea’s potential signings the most. Players come and go at every club, but not at the rate seen at Chelsea.
Chelsea’s arrogance and willingness to go outside the laws when pursuing players makes clubs less willing to deal with Peter Kenyon and Mourinho, who are fast losing respect in the football world. As the Ashley Cole case showed, Chelsea is willing to act with complete disdain for the laws that govern transfer dealings, and as the Frank Arnesen case showed, even after being caught Chelsea were not afraid to do it again. There must be respect shown to other clubs. The Champions’ League tie between Man Utd and Milan showed the respect and esteem the great clubs have for each other. Upstart Chelsea need to learn some humility.
Finally, Chelsea are riding the crest of a Russian funded wave. The plan is to make it a profitable business in 5 years time. Even if this is achieved, what happens when the spending power of Abramhovic is taken away? Chelsea doesn’t have the worldwide fan base of a Real Madrid or Man Utd, can they successfully make the step up from a medium sized club to a worldwide football force? Will the great players want to come to Chelsea? Will they be able to afford them anyway? Surely if they don’t want to join the Russian Revolution now, what chance does Chelsea have of joining the ranks of greatness?

Michael Essen ce najvjerovatnije doci iz Lyona sljedeceg mjeseca sto ce i biti najvece pojacanje uz povratak kolege Hermana iz onog drugorazrednog Berlusconijevog kluba i Asiera Del Horna koji je za £8mil presao iz Athletico Bilbaoa.
Vrijeme je da se ide na kladionicu i stave pare na sljedeceg pobjednika Lige Sampiona, a to je naravno Chelsea.

Kako to već obično biva u ljetnom prijelaznom roku, ovih dana u svijetu vrhunskog nogometa "svatko spava sa svakim", najavljuju se sencacionalni transferi, ali tek u rijetkim slučajevima dolazi do njihove realizacije.
Posljednji pregovori vezani su uz najveće svjetske klubove; Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Milan i Chelsea, a zvijezde prijelaznog roka su Andrij Ševčenko, Ronaldinho, Christian Vieri, Luis Figo, Michael Ballack, Gaby Milita i Robert Pires.
Prema Eurosportu, ruski multimilijarder Roman Abramovič ponudio je 87 milijuna eura za napadača Milana, Andrija Ševčenka. Prijeđe li ukrajinski reprezentativac na Stamford Bridge, postao bi najskuplji igrač u povijesti nogometa, ali poznato je da Abramovič ne pita za cijenu kad odluči kupiti nekog.
FoxSportsa javlja da bi Manchester United mogao iz njemačkog Bayerna pokušati dovesti Michaela Ballacka, naročito uzme li se u obzir da je Ballacku trener zaprijetio "Potpiši novi ugovor s Bayernom ili odi."
Ballack je izrazio želju da u Bayernu ostane još godinu dana, do sljedećeg ljeta, kada mu ističe ugovor, ali Felix Magath ne želi na ljeto pustiti Ballacka bez odštete, nego od njega traži da produlji vjernost bavarskom klubu.
Liverpool je nakon neuspješnog dovođenja Luisa Figa, za kojeg je Real Madrid tražio enormnu odštetu, pažnju usmjerio na potpisivanje ugovora s Argentincem Gaby Militom. Za braniča Real Zaragoze su "Redsi" ponudili 5 milijuna funti, ali su svoju ponudu naknadno "podebljali" na 7,5 milijuna. 24-godišnjak je odbio novi ugovor sa svojim matičnim klubom, a ukoliko se preseli na Otok, bio bi to najveći transfer u povijesti Zaragoze.
Real Madrid je također u pregovorima s Totenhamom, koji za veznjaka Gutia nudi pet milijuna funti.
Od ostalih mogućih transfera spominje se odlazak Roberta Piresa iz Arsenala u Galatasaray, koji je vrlo blizu realizacije, te Barcelonin pokušaj da dovede braniča Williama Gallasa iz londonskog Chelsea.
Podsjetimo još da je Rio Ferdinand raskinuo svoj ugovor s Manchester Unitedom, nakon čega se proširila glasina da bi engleski reprezentativac mogao otići u Real Madrid.

Agent Roberta Piresa je rekao da je i Juventus zainteresovan za njega, pa je moguce da i on predje u Juve.
Totenhem daje 5 mil. funti za Gutija.
