We are planning to stay in Sarajevo from 30.12. to 02.01.2010 and would like to spend a New eve in some local restaurant with local music and good food. Can someone help with some recommended places? Fancy clothes will stay at home.
Any suggestions are most welcome! Thank you.

Welcome to Sarajevo!
As usually, in Sarajevo, young people celebrate New Year eve in the main street, Marshal Tito street.
Live music show. Free of charge.
Somebody else will recommend restaurant, hotel, club near Marshal Tito street.
I recommend Premium beer from Sarajevo beverage:

It is also recommended to bring some sort of weapon with you (preferably an AK-47) so you can count down from 10 with style like lots of people here do.

SINGAPORE - Next year, it may be worth a visit to El Salvador, Lake Baikal or Cork, with these destinations featuring in a new Lonely Planet travel guide for the top places to go to in 2010.
The “Best in Travel 2010,” released on Monday, is the travel company's fifth in its annual collection of the best places to go and best things to do in the year ahead.
“This is a collection of destinations and experiences that we rate as the stuff people really should consider for next year. Whatever your own style dictates, you should be able to find inspiration in these destinations,” Asia-Pacific communications manager Adam Bennett said.
“They'll take you from the familiar to the far away, both geographically and culturally, and more than likely have you reaching for your travel bag.”
Following are top 10 lists from the guide:
Top countries:
El Salvador, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Portugal, Suriname, and the United States.
Top regions:
Alsace, France; Bali, Indonesia; Fernando de Noronha, Brazil; Goa, India; Koh Kong Conservation Corridor, Cambodia; Lake Baikal, Russia; Oaxaca, Mexico; Southern Africa; The Lake District, England; Southwest Western Australia.

Hello @mumaboy and I hope that you'll enjoy your stay in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
You'll have to reserve your spot in any restaurant so be aware of that since everything is going to be full that night. It may be difficult since you're not here though.

You have to love it when people are trying to be funny on every topic on this forum.
EBorg made a really good point - if you want to have a decent celebration indoors, you need to make a reservation.
How I understood your wishes, you're looking for a place where you can sit down, have a nice meal, enjoy the music and occasional dancing rather than a club-like environment. If I'm correct, here are a couple of my favorites:
- Pivnica HS (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... ajevo.html) - A restaurant/bar adjacent to the city's brewery... very spacious, good food, great dark beer. They commonly have live music so I'm sure there will be something special. Somewhat popular among the city's upper-middle class, so you can expect that kind of atmosphere. Located in the old part of Sarajevo, about 5-10 minute walk from downtown
- Kod Kibeta (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... ajevo.html) - One of my personal favorites in Sarajevo. It's located on a hill so the view is perfect in the evening. Good food, Bosnian cuisine, mildly overpriced. A popular destination for the city's expats, politicians, etc. I assume that there won't be a crazy party up there but rather a calm sit-down evening with a warm atmosphere. Not within walking distance from downtown.
Otherwise, if you're just looking for loud music, beer and party, go downtown and walk into the first place that you like. A lot of popular bars are downtown and there will be plenty of people all over the place.
Safety-wise, watch out for firecrackers and pickpocketers (the latter especially in trams).

If you are looking for spending time with the Bosnian elite, top brains and cream of Bosnian society this is an excellent suggestion
If you are some dodgy football manager the idea is even better - you can drink and eat whole night without spending a penny

I don't want to sound unwelcoming, but agritourism in DECEMBER/JANUARY?
I know a nice place 15 minutes outside of Sarajevo. Restaurant "Image" in Semizovac, very cozy atmosphere with traditional meals in a small Bosnian hut with a nice fireplace and live Bosnian & Gypsy music.

Šta je sporno? Pod tim se podrazumijeva i smještaj u seoskoj kućici, cijepanje drva, loženje itd.Eborg wrote:I don't want to sound unwelcoming, but agritourism in DECEMBER/JANUARY?
