Жан-Мише́ль Жарр (фр. Jean-Michel André Jarre, р. 24 августа 1948) — французский композитор, один из пионеров электронной музыки, играющий в основном на синтезаторах, автор и постановщик грандиозных световых шоу. Всемирную популярность приобрёл благодаря альбому Oxygene (1976), ставшему классикой электронной музыки. Начиная с 1979 года, провёл десятки музыкально-световых представлений в разных точках планеты.
Жарр — дважды фигурант Книги Рекордов Гиннесса. Его концерты четыре раза отмечались как самые большие в истории (последний рекорд был зафиксирован в Москве в 1997 году, на концерте присутствовало 3,5 миллиона зрителей). Другой рекорд Жан-Мишель поставил, выпустив альбом «Music for Supermarkets» в единственном экземпляре, который был продан на аукционе.

This is an awesome cd...i'm listening to the epic title track as i write this review and i have to disagree with one of the other reviews on here of this album i think this is one of jarres' best works we start with calypso part one a good summer vibe to it nice uptempo number a feel good track the onto part two a little more down beat but still enjoyable and then part three a beautiful piece of music and finally the title track all 46 mins of it what can i say chilled out perfect sunset music for those lazy summer evenings it just takes you away and is haunting with it.Buy this cd now...

Description
On the first departure of his career since 1977's Oxyg�ne, Jean Michel Jarre combined an klix band and processed vocal samples — recorded in 25 different languages — with his rich, melodic synthesizer pop. The rhythm is often propelled by guttural vocal snippets, as on "Ethnicolor" and "Zoolookologie." That's not half as disconcerting for those used to his previous work as the album's art-funk backing: Adrian Belew on guitar, Marcus Miller on bass, and Yogi Horton on drums, plus Laurie Anderson on one track. Though Zoolook is interesting throughout, the tracks with Jarre alone aremore… often the best, reprising the classic Oxyg�ne sound.

Description
Aero is Jean Michel Jarre's first experiment in surround sound as well as being the most respectable "best of" album in 13 years. The album features reworked versions of his golden oldies and three new pieces. The result of the new orchestration is a modern-sounding remix album, rather than a definitive greatest hits. The album was designed and recorded in multi channel surround-sound and is therefore presented on both a CD and DVD in the same package (including Dolby Digital and DTS tracks allowing playback on a standard DVD video player in 5.1 surround sound). Sound quality is top notch asmore… you'd expect although sometimes the transitional pieces between tracks overdo the surround effects for the sake of demonstrating the technology. The music itself, as a collection of greatest hits tracks, is a surprising choice, presumably designed for the best 5.1 surround sound. There's no "Revolutions", "Chronologie 4", "Ethnicolor", "Calypso", "Oxygene 8" or "Hey Gagarin", for instance. We are treated to fresh, excellent reworkings of classics: "Oxygene 2", "Equinoxe 3" and "Last Rendez-vous". Aging tracks such as "Oxygene 4", "Chronologie 6", and "Rendez-vous 4" have all been brought up to date. The three new tracks recall Robert Miles and Orbital. They're good but there's a feeling they were left over from previous projects. There are too many synth presets sounding too clinical and lacklustre compared to the high standard of sounds used in Jarre's other studio albums. Moreover, there are finer unreleased tracks that could have been included. Also included on the DVD is a visual track. A close-up of the actress Anne Parillaud's (Nikita) eyes while she listens to the music for the full 73 minutes in one take is typical of Jarre's subtle, minimalist and "non-MTV" visual style. Aero will appeal to those wanting to test their home cinema equipment and those seeking some of the greatest hits of France's electronica wizard. --Colin Neal

В конце концов продюсер нашёлся, им оказался знакомый знакомого Жарра – Фрэнсис Дрейфус, который, между прочим говоря, в своё время раскрутил такую группу как Pink Floyd. Дрейфус, как и все в далёких 70-х, скептически относился к электронной музыке, но всё же решил рискнуть здоровьем и выпустить Oxygene тиражом 50 тыс. экземпляров.
В конечном итоге было продано 15 миллионов.
Пышная, пространственная, с витиеватыми мелодиями музыка альбома Oxygene составляет красочный контраст с современными ему электронными альбомами – с подчёркнуто холодными, жёсткими, футуристическими звуками альбомов группы Kraftwerk и с космически-мрачной музыкой группы Tangerine Dream.

Description
As the follow up album to Oxygene, Equinoxe offers the same mesmerising affect, with rapid spinning sequencer washes and bubbling synthesizer portions all lilting back and forth to stardust scatterings of electronic pastiches. Using more than 13 different types of synthesizers, Jarre combines whirling soundscapes of multi-textured effects, passages, and sometimes suites to culminate interesting electronic atmospheres. Never repeating the same sounds twice, it is obvious that the science fiction hype of the late 70's played a large part in the making of this album. Computerised rhythms and keyboardmore…-soaked transitions scurry by, replaced by even quicker, more illustrious ones soon after. There is always a pulsating beat or a fluttering tempo happening somewhere in each of the tracks, which are titled as a numbered sequence one to eight. Each track harbours its own energy and electronic fleetness, but none are identical in sound or pace. So much electronic colour is added to every track that it is impossible to concentrate on any particular segment, resulting in waves of synth drowning the ears at high tide. --Mike DeGagne, All Music Guide

Description
Jean Michel Jarre was the first western musician to be invited to play within the People's Republic of China in October 1981. The concerts were not a huge success: the Chinese audience were unfamiliar with the format and the style of music, and they only warmed to the laser show (which was very impressive at the time). The music was largely underrated, which is a shame as I feel that this CD remains one of Jarre's most impressive works. It collects together excerpts from five concerts that played in Peking in Shanghai.What makes this album stand out over his other material is the beautiful compositionsmore… he wrote to bring his western electronic style in harmony with a traditional oriental symphony orchestra. This is no better illustrated than on the track 'Fishing Junks at Sunset' which is completely mesmerising. Other new tracks he wrote for the concerts include an upbeat track 'Orient Express' and a fascinating piece called 'Night in Shanghai' which really does conjure the mood of walking through different parts of a hot sticky city at night, from the bustle of restaurants to the peace of sitting by the harbour. The final track, "Souvenir of China" is very moody, a slow burning track that suggests weariness, punctured with the incessant click of the Nikon. It's the most autobiographical track JMJ has ever produced.The rest of the album is mainly taken from 'Magnetic Fields' including a magnificent live version of 'Magnetic Fields 2' (which has since been re-used in many of his live performances). The first track "Overture" is a little bit of a cheek--it's actually a slowed down version of Magnetic Fields 1. There are also a couple of 'Equinoxe' tracks, but there are no versions of Oxygene on this album even though it was his most well known music at the time. The only track that lets it down, and one I have never really liked is 'The Last Rumba (Magnetic Fields 5)' which felt tacked on to the end of the Magnetic Fields album, and still feels out of place here.Overall this is an excellent album, and if you're a Jarre fan who doesn't already own it, or if you like classical oriental music, I urge you to make the purchase.
